Population
On the shores of the Caribbean Sea, Belize City is the commercial and cultural capital of the country, with a population of around 90,000 people. Belmopan, located in the nation’s interior, is the capital, only about an hour away. The total population of Belize is around 350,000 people (and we can use one more … you.)
Climate
Belize’s climate is tropical with average temperatures ranging from 24 C (75.2 F) in January to 27 C (80.6 F) in July. (That’s gotta tempt you.)
Currency
The national currency of Belize is the Belize Dollar (BZ$). It has a 2:1 fixed exchange rate with the U.S. Dollar (US$1 = BZ$2). US Dollars are widely accepted by most businesses in Belize.
People
The people in Belize are awesome. Often referred to as a “melting pot,” it’s impossible to visit Belize and come away with an impression of one group as a majority. Major ethnic groups include Caucasian, Creoles, Mestizo, Maya, Garifuna, East Indians, Arabs, Chinese, and Spanish. (Fortunately, almost everybody speaks English.) The melting pot diversity is also evident in Belizean culture – the people are fun-loving yet industrious and hard-working. Everybody can feel at home.
