Hilltop ruins dating back to 1200 BCE, featuring ceremonial Mayan temples & scenic views.
Super easy and worth a visit. It's just a short walk to the ruins. Though fairly small, it's a gorgeous space to spend some time. Notice the beautiful birds that fly overhead (falcons, maybe?) and keep your eyes open for tucans. They make an interesting croaking sound...

Great place to learn a bit about Mayan History. Easy to reach with a 30 min walk uphill from San Ignacio. Nice little museum that gives a short overview of mayan history and the place itself. The ruins are beautiful and it's a peaceful little place and when you are quiet enough (a capability that most tourists have lost unfortunately) you might be lucky enough to spot a couple of toucans like we did. Definitely worth spending the 20 BZD per person to spend a couple of hours there.

Great piece e of Mayan history close to San Ignacio. Explore the ruins without having to take a long day trip away from town. A beautiful area that is well maintained. Seems popular with bird watchers and history buffs alike.

Atop the highest point of the city, the ruins sit quietly beneath the canopy of bird filled trees. A toucan and even a howler monkey made themselves seen and heard. It is a quiet and breathtaking ruin, easy to navigate alone, partially due to it's size. But as always the case with any ruins, to truly grasp what you are surrounded by, a guide is essential.

A relatively small Mayan temple site, it was occupied for most all of Mayan civilization. Very close to town, so easy to visit if you are short on time. Interesting museum and small gift shop.
