Supermarket
π Calle Principal, Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala

La Despensa Familiar used to be my favorite supermarket in the area: excellent service, friendly people, and very low prices. However, many things have changed since then, and for the worse! I must admit that the employees are still very friendly and willing to help. But now La Despensa Familiar is playing dirty with its offers and prices, and it seems the company has decided to constantly adjust them because it doesn't hurt their profits. Price increases of up to 30% are common. Some examples: two years ago, liquid yogurt was always under 5 GTQ. Now it costs 6.50 GTQ, and when the company offers special promotions online (like 4 yogurts for 20 GTQ), this offer is often not available at the Melchor de Mencos store. (As happened in the last two weeks, when a similar offer was available nationwide, but was simply ignored in Melchor!) Sparkling mineral water recently cost 9 GTQ for 2 liters, and then the price jumped to 12 GTQβan increase of over 33% in just 3 months! There are often completely illogical offers: tuna in water for 9 GTQ, but packaged as a special offer of 3 cans for 34 GTQ. Or Danone yogurt, which was 5 GTQ for 200g a few weeks ago in a special pack labeled "4 yogurts for the price of 3," which was actually 15 GTQ, but then changed: one yogurt now costs 5.60 GTQ after the price increase, and the "4 yogurts for the price of 3" special pack is 25 GTQ. That's completely unprofessional and insane! La Despensa often uses special offers only to raise the price later. A box of cereal costs 18 GTQ, then you can get two of the same brand for 34 GTQ (so you save 2 GTQ), and after the sale ends, the regular price is almost 20 GTQ. "La Despensa - low prices": in some cases, they're now more expensive than Walmart, despite being the same company, and it's completely incomprehensible, especially since inflation in Europe is around 2%, and La Despensa Familiar keeps raising prices by up to 30%, especially when so many poor people shop there. Their pricing policy is no longer "low price": some products are cheaper in my small town outside of Melchor de Mencos. If the company keeps this up, I won't shop there again! What's happening here is a disgrace!

After 20 years, service is at 60%, they're already using ATMs without human assistance, and most customers don't like it. Personally, I don't support it; they're replacing humans.
