We had previously read on various websites that a taxi from San Ignacio to the border would cost $7.50. Armed with this information, we approached several taxi drivers. They all insisted on $20 (using various arguments such as "government mandate," "increased gas prices," etc.). One driver even showed us a price list on his smartphone. However, we also knew from the local tourist information office that there were different prices for locals and tourists. This all seemed like a tourist trap. Since we had no other option, we took a taxi and were lucky that the driver was very approachable and helpful. For example, he gave us good information on how to get to the colectivo (shared taxi) on the Guatemalan side for the trip to Flores. This ride, by the way, only cost us 40 quetzales per person.
